The second phase of the nationwideScience4Life Venture Cup business plan competition is completed. 84 start-up teams submitted their business concepts from the life sciences, chemistry and energy sectors. In addition to prize money of 12,000 euros, founders benefit from individual feedback, access to the investor and expert network and extensive business coaching.
The concept phase of the 21st Science4Life Venture Cup has come to a successful end: 84 start-up teams have submitted their business concepts – enabling Science4Life to build on the rapidly increasing number of participants in recent years. But not only the number of submissions has increased in recent years, the quality of business concepts has also increased continuously. Start-ups from the life sciences sector are particularly strongly represented this year and were able to convince with concepts such as a digital and contactless measurement of vital data or a smart insole for Parkinson’s patients. There were also exciting innovations in the chemical and energy sectors – including a new analysis method for proteins and a network-independent rapid charging system for electric vehicles.
The main sponsors of the business plan competition are the Hessian state government and the health company Sanofi. The special Science4Life Energy Award has been awarded since 2016 and is sponsored by the Viessmann Group as the main sponsor and platinum promoter, energy supplier ENTEGA as gold promoter and the State of Hesse to promote technological innovations in the field of energy. “Start-ups and their ideas are decisive for the future of our state – regardless of whether we are talking about digital transformation or the energy revolution,” said Dr. Philipp Nimmermann, Hesse’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs: “We need people who can put their business ideas into practice. I am therefore delighted that so many and above all innovative concepts have once again been submitted this year”. Dr. Karl-Heinz Baringhaus, administrative director for research and development at Sanofi in Germany, was also enthusiastic: “The Science4Life Venture Cup has been around for over 20 years and every year there are impressive new submissions. It is important to us to support the participants with our expert network in the best possible way in realizing their business projects. After all, we all benefit from the innovative ideas.” In addition to a two-day intensive workshop, the top ten teams each received 1,000 euros in prize money.
Science4Life e.V. is an independent start-up initiative that offers free advice, support and further training for young companies in the life sciences, chemicals and energy sectors throughout Germany. It was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organization. Since 2003 the founder initiative Science4Life is an association. Initiators and sponsors are the Hessian state government and the health enterprise Sanofi. The founder’s initiative focuses on the annual business plan competition “Science4Life Venture Cup” and each year invites ideas from all over Germany to turn innovative business ideas from the fields of life sciences, chemistry and energy into business successes. In addition, special prizes are awarded for the best submissions in the field of energy. This makes it the largest business plan competition in Germany for these important industries of the future. To support the company founders, it bundles specialist expertise in an expert network of more than 200 companies and institutions with more than 300 volunteer experts. Since 1998, more than 6500 participants have developed and put to the test more than 2000 business ideas, including more than 1000 detailed business plans. More than 900 newly founded companies were created.
